GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT ADVISED TO ADOPT MULTISECTORAL

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Henry Mukungule has called on government officers in Kanchibiya district to adopt a multisectoral approach to enhance revenue collection among public institutions assigned to undertake appropriation in aid activities.

Appropriation in aid is revenue that public bodies collect and assign to expenditure, as authorised by the Treasury.

Speaking today at the District Administration office, Mr Mukungule emphasised the critical role played by institutions such as the Forestry Department and the Local Authority in meeting their annual revenue targets.

“The revenue collected is essential for effective service delivery, funding activities such as free education, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and much more,” Mr Mukungule said.

He further encouraged local authorities to identify and open up land for plot allocation, which would enable citizens to develop the land while generating revenue for the government through ground rates.

And Kanchibiya District Commissioner Chrispin Chilekwa pledged the district’s commitment to hard work and teamwork in achieving its goals.

He urged heads of departments to embrace and adopt a multisectoral approach.

And Provincial Lands Officer Duncan Chipungu, who was also in attendance, highlighted the importance of the Government Service Bus (GSB) platform in improving service delivery.

“The GSB platform will enhance efficient revenue collection for the government while providing convenience to citizens, who can now access essential services online from the comfort of their homes. Everyone must promote and educate others on the use of this platform to ensure accessibility for all Zambians,” Mr Chipuma said.

Kanchibiya Town Council Acting Council Secretary Hastings Nyirenda noted the challenges of revenue collection in the district, citing its status as a newly established area.

“Revenue collection was a challenge in the past, but thanks to government interventions, we are now making progress. People have started accessing plots and small-scale holdings, which will further boost revenue,” Mr Nyirenda said.
