SINDA FARMERS RECEIVE FSP INPUTS

The Department of Community Development has started the distribution of farming inputs under the Food Security Pack (FSP)’s Rainfed Cropping sub-programme in Sinda District, Eastern Province.

District Community Development Officer, Frida Mbewe has disclosed that a total of 4,744 by 50 Kg bags of Urea has been received while 4,744 by 50 Kg bags of D compound fertilizer has also been delivered.

She added that the inputs are against a caseload of 2,372 vulnerable but viable beneficiaries further stating that 1,800 by 10 Kg bags of white maize have been received for distribution.

Ms Mbewe added that legumes which include Sunflower and Soya beans are still expected in the district.

Meanwhile, Ms Mbewe told ZANIS that government has this season increased the pack per beneficiary from the previous year.

He explained previously beneficiaries were given one bag of Urea and two bags of D compound fertiliser but that this year, farmers are getting two bags of each making fertilizer plus one bag of seed.

“The government has now increased what each beneficiary will be getting. And we can only call upon farmers to ensure that they show appreciation by planting so that they can give back to the community after harvest,” she said.

Ms Mbewe also noted that despite receiving the inputs late, the seed varieties being distributed are medium maturity, which gives farmers a chance for a good harvest if they take advantage of prevailing rain patterns.

“I would like to encourage our farmers to plant these crops and reciprocate the government’s gesture of such support to ensure that we have food security come harvest time,” she said.

And beneficiaries of the programme from Sinda Central Community Ward Assistant Committee (CWAC) area, have hailed the government’s efforts in ensuring that the vulnerable members of the community are given opportunities to participate in productive activities such agriculture thereby contributing to food security.
