FOOTGOLF a new sport combining principles of football and golf has been launched in the country.

In an interview with ZANIS in Solwezi, Footgolf Zambia Secretary General Charity Makalashi said the sport is open to all age groups.

“The purpose of the sport is to promote sports and social entrepreneurship in the community,” she said.

Makalashi added that the sport currently can be accessed in six provinces which include Eastern, Lusaka, Muchinga, Central, Copperbelt and Eastern Provinces.

“The sport was introduced last year in the country and full operations have begun as we recently got affiliated with the National Sports Council of Zambia,” she said.

She further said they have challenges in terms of infrastructure as they do not have their own.

“Not having infrastructure will not prevent us from training and we shall continue to train,”she said.

Meanwhile, the local communities will definitely be involved as they depend on them for selection and it is in communities where we find social problems.

“Government through the National Sports Council of Zambia is helping us and we are looking at the upcoming tournament on 19 April of this year,” she said.

Makalashi appeals to all available organisations to help with any support that will enable them to perform their activities effectively as they are a new federation.
