CONSTRUCTION OF MOTHERS’ SHELTER AT CHINSALI HOSPITAL ADVANCES

WORKS on the construction of the over K847,000 mothers’ shelter at the Chinsali General Hospital in Muchinga Province have reached an advanced stage.

Chinsali Member of Parliament Kalalwe Mukosa says the project which is being constructed using the 2023 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation is at 85 percent completion stage.

Mr Mukosa told ZANIS in Chinsali today when he checked on the project, that he is optimistic that the contractor engaged to do the project will expedite the works so that the shelter can be operational.

He noted that a mother’s shelter component was left out during the construction of the Chinsali General Hospital, adding that the local authority saw it prudent to construct the shelter using CDF.

“It has been very challenging especially when it is in the rainy season because our mothers get soaked under a tree and so this will help to provide relief to our citizens who bring patients to this health facility,” he said.

Mr Mukosa further mentioned that the facility will also have toilets with running water as stipulated in the construction plan.

Margaret Munyenyembe, who is one of the mothers at the General Hospital lamented that the current situation at the hospital has been challenging especially during the rainy season.

She said the new shelter is a great milestone for the residents, stating that it will provide a conducive environment for them to cook for their patients.

“We thank the Government for constructing this facility using CDF,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mercy Mbulo, another Chinsali resident, appealed for the expansion of the new shelter in the future, saying the frequency of people visiting patients at the health facility is increasing daily.

However, she acknowledged that CDF is being utilised effectively in the health sector in Chinsali District.
