THE Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sun King, a solar energy solution company, aimed at enabling its members to access solar energy products at an affordable price.
ZMA Secretary General, Oliver Kaoma, says the partnership has come about due to the adverse effects of climate change which has affected the stable power supply in the country.
ZANIS reports that speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka, Dr Kaoma observed that the decision to enter into partnership with Sun King, is in response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive for the public to champion the utilisation of solar energy solutions.
He explained that the Zambia Medical Association is taking a lead by enabling its members to have access to reasonably priced solar energy products for them to navigate through the energy shortage.
“Today’s event is the beginning of a partnership between Zambia Medical Association and Sun King solar solution, we believe that embarking on this partnership will enable our members to access solar energy products at reasonable prices,” he said.
Dr Kaoma notes that by partnering with Sun King solutions, the strain on the national power grid will be reduced, as solar is a natural occurring energy source and the way to go.
And Sun King Partnerships Business Leader for Southern Africa, Emmanuel Kaliwo, said the mission of the company is to power and promote better lives of people in their areas of operation.
He noted that the magnitude of Sun King solar energy transcends to all sectors of the economy which include education, health, agriculture and other business entities.
“So in our partnership with ZMA, we are looking at how best we support our colleagues in the Medical field by making our solar energy products more affordable to them,” Mr Kaliwo said.
He explained that Sun King is a global company with presence in more than 60 countries, and that Zambia is one of the countries where it has over 20 outlets, where the medical professionals can access services.
Mr Kaliwo added that what the partnership entails is that if one is a member of ZMA, he or she is expected to procure solar products at a certain discount which goes with free installation and after sales support.
“We are happy that today we have formalised our partnership, we are more than happy to serve ZMA and Zambians at large with our quality solar products so that together we can navigate the adverse effects of the prolonged drought,” he added.
The Zambia Medical Association has members in all the 10 provinces of the country, who are expected to benefit from the MOU that has been signed between the two institutions.
