The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has distributed relief maize and some hygienic materials to 14 families whose houses were reported to have been destroyed by heavy rains in Lufwanyama’s Mibenge area.
District DMMU Coordinator Dennis Hachipi delivered 14 by 50 kilogramme bags of white maize and a pack of chlorine and hygienic soap to each household.
“Some affected people are currently seeking shelter at a nearby church while others are sleeping in makeshift houses,” said Mr. Hachipi.
Meanwhile some of the affected families thanked government for assisting them with food.
Ruth Kapolombo who spoke on behalf of others appealed to the government to consider assisting them with some building materials to enable them repair their damaged houses.
She said life has become difficult for them as they don’t have a permanent place to sleep.
