The Zambia Pool Union says there is a need to prioritize the growth of pool in districts in an effort to ensure that every corner of Zambia has access to the sport.
ZPU General Secretary Tesfa Shinkombwe said the growth and development must not be limited to urban centers, noting that this will not only promote inclusivity but also provide opportunities for rural players to compete at the national level.
In an interview with ZANIS, Shinkombwe said this will not only promote unity but also ensure that various national teams are competitive and representative of the best talent Zambia has to offer.
“First and foremost, let’s talk about national team selection. It’s imperative that we establish a fair, transparent, and merit-based selection process that rewards our top players, regardless of their affiliation or background,” he said
Shinkombwe added that it is important to promote a culture of inclusivity, respect and solidarity within the pool community, urging the pool community to put differences aside and work towards making pool a thriving and sustainable sport.
He noted that pool can be a lucrative business and hence called for the need to explore opportunities to commercialise the sport, create revenue streams, and uplift the lives of players.
Shinkombwe called on ZPU members to prioritise the amendment of important statutory provisions of the Constitution and the Code of Conduct.
