North-western Water Supply and Sanitation Company (NWWSSC) has been contracted by Manyinga Town Council to implement a water network extension project to connect the new central business District (CBD) at a cost of K2 million.
North-western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Public Relations Officer Gilbert Kaimana said the project involves a 10 kilometre network extending from M8 Road to the new CBD.
Mr Kaimana said this in an interview with ZANIS in Solwezi
He said the project will be financed by the Land Development Fund (LDF) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
“This is the main water distribution line that would then be used for further customer connections to households, public institutions, commercial other potential customers set up in the new CBD,” Mr Kaimana said.
Mr Kaimana said the project commenced two week ago and that works are progressing well.
“Manyinga is one of the newer Districts in North Western Province and this development goes far in accelerating the setting up of administrative offices and other infrastructure in and around the new administrative centre,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kaimana said the recent challenge of water supply to most areas in Solwezi District has been as a result of increased shutdown of the main treatment plant due to high turbidity owing to increased rainfall activities.
Mr Kaimana said the turbidity is being worsened by increased human activities, such as farming, brick making and sand mining on the banks of the Solwezi River.
“In the past 24 hours, we have resumed full production at the plant as the rains have moderated and supply is stabilising,” he said.
