Government has disbursed Five Hundred Million Kwacha to the Food Reserve Agency FRA aimed at paying remaining farmers that sold their maize to the government through various FRA depots countrywide.
In a statement obtained by ZANIS, FRA Public Relations Coordinator John Chipandwe says the agency has transferred funds to banks countrywide for onward payment to eligible farmers.
ZANIS reports that Mr Chipandwe urged the banks to speed up the release of funds to the remaining farmers to enable them buy farming inputs in readiness for this year’s farming season.
Mr Chapandwe commended farmers for their hard work and positive response displayed during this year’s crop marketing season.
“We have been able to purchase more than half a million metric tons of maize despite the partial drought experienced.” He added.
Mr Chapandwe disclosed that farmers that will deliver their maize between now and 30th November 2024 will be paid, by the close of the extended crop marketing season.
