Smart agric. increases productivity for North farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture in Northern Province says small scale farmers in Northern Province have started implementing smart climate agriculture.

Northern Province Senior Land Husbandry Officer Lawrence Bwembya says climate smart agriculture has helped farmers increase productivity even in the midst of the drought which the country experienced.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mr Bwembya explains that the province is also focusing on conservation farming, agroforestry, seed and livestock varieties

Mr Bwembya says Lake Tanganyika Development and TRALARD projects are supporting the province in enhancing climate smart agriculture by using lead farmers and follower farmer approaches.

He added that the ministry is also helping to organise On-farm demonstration where farmers learn technologies to appreciate yields that climate smart agriculture is offering.
