A Gender and child activist in Livingstone, Southern province Joe Pandawa says  divorce has become a norm nowadays.

Mr. Pandawa says divorce has a profound impact on children, shaping their emotional well-being and future development.

In an interview with ZANIS in Livingstone, he explained that Children are the most affected in divorce cases.

“ Divorce causes emotional trauma to children when they see their parents who used to love each other, mistreat one another. Therefore, children fail to understand and accept the situation.

“Children from broken homes usually do not believe in love and prefer not to marry or get married, because of the broken bold between their parents. They lose hope and usually isolate themselves as they feel they are not part of this world”, says Mr. Pandawa.

He further explained that a child from a broken home loses concentration, self-motivation and academic performance.

“ Nevertheless,  children might become more withdrawn, sad, or angry. They may have trouble sleeping or eating properly.

“  Some children may act out or become more rebellious. These changes happen because divorce can be stressful and confusing for kids, “
he said.

For a society to be productive and well organized, families need to be united. Henceforth couples should always strive hard to resolve marital differences and avoid divorce for the betterment of their children.

During his national address on national values and principals in parliament, President Hakainde expressed his concern on the increased levels of divorce in the country, among other issues.
