The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development will soon mop up and put on record all mines and license owners in order to meet the three million metric tonnes Copper Production Strategy by 2031.
Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Paul Kabuswe has said the Ministry is yet to implement the minerals commission that will act as a regulator.
He said the benefits of the thriving mines would lead to good road networks, infrastructure development, local content development and increased investments.
He said this during a press briefing in Kalumbila District that President Hakainde Hichilema has revamped the mining sector by creating an enabling environment for policy stability.
“The three big mines yearly are producing 810,000 metric tonnes without the other mines but that is because they slowed down during the previous regime,”he said.
Mr Kabuswe further commended the mining companies for employing more Zambians than expatriates in their companies but appealed for the companies to re-engage with their contractors for fair wage treatment.
“We have been receiving complaints from contractors in the mining sector for better treatment of contractor workers indirectly employed to get a wage that is not different from what direction employees and other conditions of service are getting.
