Five families have been left homeless after heavy rain damaged their houses in Kabweza ward of Kafue District in Lusaka Province
Kafue District Commissioner Maurice Hikapulwe yesterday visited the Kabweza ward to assess the damage caused by the rain.
Last week, heavy rains and a storm destroyed about 15 homes, and shops leaving five families without shelter or necessities such as food.
Some houses had their roofs blown off while others completely collapsed during the heavy downpour.
During his visit, Mr Hikapulwe met with the affected residents and assured them of the government’s support.
“We are here in Kabweza ward where some families are affected by the storm which occurred last week, and 5 families are completely left without shelter,” said Mr Hikapulwe.
The affected families have called on the government to come to their aid swiftly as they are in a desperate situation.
Speaking on behalf of other affected families, Loveness Malupande, said the storm had left the families homeless and without necessities like food.
“We have lost everything; we don’t have shelter, and our food got washed by the rains, we don’t have where to start from, and we are only looking to the government for support,” said Ms. Malupande.
Meanwhile, five people were left injured following the blown-off roofs and the collapsing of houses caused by heavy rains.
