Government committed to providing clean water-Rufunsa DC

Rufunsa District Commissioner, Richard Mabena has retaliated government’s commitment to advancing and improving   the water and sanitation agenda throughout the country.

Speaking when he officiated at the commemoration of the world water day held under the theme leveraging water for peace, Mr Mabena said Government remains committed to advancing the water and sanitation development agenda so that people have access to clean and safe water.

He added that following the declaration of the dry spell as a national disaster and an emergency, the government has put in place measures in enhancing water harvesting mechanisms.

Rufunsa Town Council Chairperson, Kennedy Mailole said during this dry spell the local authority will use the disaster component of the constituency development fund (CDF) to mitigate the effects of the drought in the district.

Mr. Mailoni added that the local authority has used the CDF to drill boreholes across the district to ensure that people have access to clean and safe water.

Meanwhile, World Vision Zambia says it is providing water and sanitation services in communities to complement the government’s efforts in enhancing access to water and sanitation in communities.

World Vision Zambia Chongwe cluster Water and Sanitation Coordinator, Sharon Daka said the organization is working in schools, health facilities and in communities to enable people to have access to clean and safe water.
