Do not load shed schools -NAQEZ

National Action for Quality Education Zambia has implored ZESCO to consider excluding schools from load shedding.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa says electricity plays an impact on the output of learners hence the call to exclude schools from load shedding.

“Load shedding is unfavorable to the education sector affecting information computer technology and home economics lessons, the quality of teaching and learning tends to be negatively affected,” he said

He told ZANIS in an interview that load shedding disturbs the flow of learning for both teachers and learners.

Mr. Chansa added that there are subjects that depend on the use of electricity for practical purposes.

He further explained that load shedding disturbs the order of meals in boarding schools and also places a strain on studying at night.

“This is likely to affect the performance of students, especially those in examination classes,” he said.

He suggested that schools should be empowered with alternative sources of energy to help curb the issues of power cuts in schools.
