33, 700 households earmarked for Rapid Emergency Response SCT in Kapiri Mposhi

Over 33,700 households are earmarked to benefit from the Rapid Emergency Response Social Cash Transfer programme in Kapiri Mposhi District.

This includes 13,695 vulnerable households impacted by the dry-spell and 20,007 households already on the social cash transfer in the district.

District Commissioner, Francis Hasalama says that the elderly above 60 years old, expectant and breastfeeding mothers and the sick are among the targeted beneficiaries.

In an interview with ZANIS, Mr Hasalama disclosed that households already on social cash transfer will receive an addition of K 200 while 13,695 vulnerable households impacted by the drought situation will each be paid K 400.

The targeted households will receive the respective cash transfers bi-monthly for one year to cushion the impact of the dry spell which has compromised the food security in the 2023/24 farming season in the district.

” Kapiri Mposhi is equally affected by drought and households even those under the food security park and Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) are at risk of experiencing hunger, but government has responded with this programme to cushion the impact of the drought on households….

” And 13,695 more households will be included to get help and the 20007 those receiving social cash transfer already will also be paid an addition of money for the period of one year,” Mr Hasalama said.

The Department of Social Welfare has since commenced the enumeration process to identify beneficiaries of the Rapid Emergence Response programme in the district.

Meanwhile, Mr Hasalama has advised the department to ensure that only eligible households are included on the programme.

” My advice is if this programme is to address the problem it aimed to address only those affected according to the guidelines should be included on the beneficiaries’ lists,” Mr Hasalama said.
