Chilanga to receive 200 metric tonnes relief maize

Chilanga District is expected to receive 200 metric tonnes of maize for distribution to vulnerable individuals who have been affected by the dry spell.

Speaking during the Disaster Relief Committee meeting in Chilanga yesterday, District Commissioner, David Sheleni, stated that 4,000 by 50 kilograms of maize will be distributed to vulnerable individuals to ensure food security in the district.

ZANIS reports that Mr Sheleni said the district has commenced the identification of beneficiaries in all the twelve wards in the district and the process is being facilitated by Councillors.

“The President assured the nation that no one is going to die of hunger thus the relief maize will help vulnerable individuals with food security in their various households,” he said.

Mr Sheleni, however, urged Councillors to ensure transparency and accountability in the identification and distribution of the relief maize once the district receives the 200 metric tonnes of maize.

He noted that the relief maize must be distributed fairly and equally among the vulnerable individuals who have been adversely affected by the dry spell.

Mr Sheleni added that transparency and accountability in the execution of duty for Civic leaders build trust between the citizens and the government.
