Macro link miners still trapped, as options are applied to retrieve them

Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development says the recovery process of the trapped six Zambian and a Chinese national at Macro link Copper Mine in Ndola is still ongoing.

Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development Director for Safety, Fred Banda, disclosed that different alternatives are being used to retrieve the trapped miners.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Mr. Banda explained that the final option left will take about 90 days to be completed.

Mr Banda explained that currently, the shaft column is being filled with pole clips so that water is pumped out in effort to retrieve the trapped miners.

“The Six Zambian miners and a Chinese national still remain trapped underground as the final option will take 90 days,” he stated.  .

In January this year eight miners at Macro links Resources Limited in Ndola got trapped after the shaft was filled with water and mud.
