Government has urged the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) to work with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in order to ensure safety for the public.
Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali says working together will help address challenges faced in the transport sector.
ZANIS reports that the Minister said this during a press briefing held at the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) head office where he met members of the association.
Mr Tayali observed that it is not necessary for bus and taxi drivers to boycott as a result of the suspension of one of the major operators in the country adding that meeting with relevant stakeholders will instead help address the matter.
The Minister explained that Juldan Motors Limited had its license suspended due to a road traffic accident that occurred in Kafue claiming the lives of 4 citizens.
Mr Tayali added that as mandated by law, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) conducted an investigation of the cause, and evidence facts came up hence the suspension of the license.
He however said, it is not a permanent suspension adding that once Juldan Motors management fulfils the compliance list, the suspension will be lifted.
And a Representative from Juldan Motors, George Matanga stated that the families of the deceased have been compensated.
Mr Matanga also indicated that all passengers that suffered due to the accident will be taken care of by the insurance company.
