WORLD Vision Zambia Manyinga-Mufumbwe cluster programme manager Sikopo Mulambwa says her organisation will be launching a campaign to end child hunger and malnutrition in the country.
Ms. Mulambwa says the campaign will commence on 27th November, 2025, and will ensure that all children, especially the most vulnerable ones, have access to quality and nutritious food to survive and thrive now and in the future.
Speaking during celebrations of Worlds’ children’s day under the theme ‘For every Child, every right,’ in Manyinga, she noted that the Enough campaign is in line with the sustainable development goal number two which seeks to eliminate all forms of hunger and malnutrition.
The Campaign is also in line with development pillar number three in the 8th National development plan, which seeks to eliminate all forms of malnutrition.
She urged the gathering to work together and improve food security at household level and ensure children are protected from hunger and malnutrition.
As a child focused organisation, she said World Vision will work with the government through various line ministries to provide children with safety and an enabling environment where their rights and responsibilities are respected..
And officially opening the event, District Commissioner Brenda Mukwakwa noted that the government acknowledges that many children in the district and globally face challenges such as poverty, inequality, injustice, their basic rights forced into child labor and exposed to violence and exploitation.
“This year’s theme, “ for every child , every right” emphasises the importance of ensuring that all children have access to their fundamental rights including education, healthcare, protection and a safe environment,” she said.
Ms Mukwakwa stated that the commemoration is an awakening to the district as well as the global community to come together and address these issues affecting every child such as access to quality education, health care and protection from harm.
Ms Mukwakwa further commended World Vision Zambia for supplementing government efforts in improving lives especially children through various programmes like “I Wash” which she said had enabled children in the remotest parts of the district to have access to clean and safe water.
She added that initiatives such as behavioral change towards sanitation and hand hygiene have resulted in many people gaining access to basic sanitation and hand washing services.
She also said government will work tirelessly to create a world that is just, equitable and safe for children, a world where children can dream big, explore and reach their full potential.
And senior chief Sikufele of Manyinga and Kabompo district who spoke through his representative notes that the UPND government cares for children and it is evidenced through the various child protection activities implemented in the country.
He highlighted that one of the initiatives by government is free education and keeping girls in school which he said has made it possible for children who cannot afford to pay school fees to be in school.
He also noted that the coming of the new dawn government has seen the massive recruitment of teachers and production of school desks under Constituency Development Fund.
Every 20 th November marks the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the declaration of the rights of the child in 1959 and since then every year is commemorated as World Children’s day.
