ZCS optimistic about completing chief’s palace construction in Muchinga.  

THE Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) Project Supervisor in Muchinga Province Ruth Chanda has expressed optimism of completing construction of most Chief palaces before September this year.

Engineer Chanda, wo is supervising all the eight sites in the province, is confident of completing the works owing to works done so far and availability of building materials.

Eng. Chanda explains that currently the ZCS is doing stamping works in readiness for a concrete slab by next week thereafter, begin raising the walls.

She disclosed this when Permanent Secretary for Special Duties Patrick Mucheleka and Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Henry Mukungule undertook an inspection tour of the construction works at Senior Chief Nkula’s palace in Chinsali District.

The Project Supervisor further told the two PSs that the works which have been done in a month’s time on all the four structures are progressing on smoothly with minor challenges.

 “The scoop of works include construction of a palace, two returner housing units and a conference room,” she added.

And Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Henry Mukungule said the pace at which the works are progressing are impressive and on course.

Speaking after the inspection of works, Mr Mukungule said the workmanship of the contractor engaged who are the Zambia Correctional Service is of quality standard looking at the stage the works have reached.

” Am happy with the progress you have made from mid-March today, I must say am impressed as this is the second time am coming here, ” He said.

And Permanent Secretary for Special duties under Cabinet Office Patrick Mucheleka charged that government is in a hurry to construct chief palaces due to the critical role that they play in the developmental process of the country.

Mr. Mucheleka said government attached great important to the welfare of chiefs across the nation that is why it has embarked the programme to construct palaces for them.

” These are our partners which is why we want to take good care of them and provide standard shelter that is befitting them,” PS Mucheleka said.

Speaking during a courtesy call on him at his palace, Senior Chief Nkula of the bemba people of Chinsali District praised Government for considering constructing palaces for the chiefs in the country.

Stating that the speed at which the contractor is moving cannot be over emphasised, the traditional ruler said he was impressed with the performance of Zambia Correctional Service works at the construction site.

“I want to thank government for undertaking this project to build us palaces because it gives us ,as the royal highnesses joy and the respect that which we command”, Senior Chief Nkula added.

Government has this year begun a phased project to construct palaces for chiefs in Muchinga province and the nation at large.
