MANSA Municipal Council in Luapula Province says it has started rolling out a number of developmental projects from the K61.2 Million, using the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which was allocated to the two constituencies in the district.
Mansa Town Clerk, Josephine Mwanza observes that the increased CDF allocation has started transforming the outlook of the district.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Mansa today, Ms Mwanza outlined some of the projects as construction of schools, grading of some roads and procurement of earth moving equipment among others.
Ms Mwanza explained that under community projects both women and youths have accessed funds and set up cooperatives.
She added that women and youths have ventured into projects such as poultry, fish farming and agricultural activities and that jobs have been created, resulting in improved livelihoods of the people.
“The significant increase in CDF by the new administration has positively impacted the living standards of the people in Mansa district, so far our district has started witnessing economic growth,” she said.
The Town Clerk added that under the loan’s component, beneficiaries that accessed funds established various cooperatives and have since started servicing their loan facilities.
She noted that now that some beneficiaries have started paying back loans, other beneficiaries have been brought on board to access the funds.
Ms Mwanza also noted that the skills training component has benefited a good number of youths who have been sent to different colleges in the country accessing quality skills.
She observed that once students acquire the necessary skills, they will be able to apply it by establishing various companies in Mansa.
Kampalala Primary School Senior Teacher Thom Mtonga hailed the Government through Mansa Municipal council for the construction of a one by three (1×3) classroom block.
Mr Mtonga said the additional classroom block will enhance quality education among pupils at the school which used to face the challenge of space to cater for over 800 pupils at the school.
He has since asked for additional school infrastructure such as teachers houses and proper water reticulation systems to address sanitation challenges.
Meanwhile, Council Public Relations Manager, Rebecca Mawere explained that over k700,000 was spent on the Kampalala Primary School in Bahati constituency.
She said over k1.5 million was also spent on the construction of Donald Chushi School with a water borne toilet and a teacher’s house respectively in Mansa Central Constituency.
Mansa Municipal Council has approved 131 million budget for its 2025 activities.
