The British government has pledged a 230 Million Euro support to Zambia towards the drought emergency response.
British High Commissioner to Zambia, Nicholas Woolley, has expressed the UK’s solidarity and support for Zambia’s efforts to respond to the drought.
And Mr Woolley has applauded the government and the people of Zambia for responding swiftly to the requirements and the needs that have been brought by the drought situation.
Mr Woolley said this when he called on Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa at his office in Lusaka today.
He added that the British government will continue to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Energy and ZESCO to implement the Integrated Resource Plan and to mobilise vital finance for power sector investments, diversifying and increasing Zambia’s domestic generation.
And Minister of Information and Media, Cornelius Mweetwa has welcomed the UK’s support in addressing drought challenges, citing an unprecedented scale of crisis.
Mr Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government’s Spokesperson, has thanked the British government for debt restructuring support and commits to financial prudence and transparency.
Mr Mweetwa further charged that the government will seek further collaboration with the British government to implement Access to Information Law.
He alluded that the government aims to expand media freedom by involving citizens in governance and ensuring opposition voices are heard.
The Minister has emphasised on prudent economic management and collaboration with media towards achieving the desired gaols.
