PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ASSURES NATIONWIDE ECONOMIC GROWTH

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia’s economy is set to recover following numerous interventions that his government has put in place.

President Hichilema charged that the country’s economy was in a critical condition when his administration took office, noting that currently, the economy is heading towards immense growth, assuring that Zambians will soon start reaping the benefits.

President Hichilema said this when he met some Members of Parliament from opposition political parties who included Mansa Member of Parliament, Chitalu Chilufya, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Robert Chabinga and Party for National Unity and Progress (PNUP), President Highvie Hamududu  on the sidelines of the Chabuka Baushi traditional ceremony in Mansa.

ZANIS reports that the Head of State has since called for unity of purpose to support the development agenda that his administration continues to roll out in the country.

And President Hichilema says his administration will take specific measures to harness the natural resource endowment, as well as the agriculture and aquaculture potential in Luapula Province.

The President observed that Luapula province can feed the whole country if its agriculture potential supported by the abundant water resource is taken advantage of.

“This province is extremely rich and that’s why not long ago I decided to send a team of Ministers to appreciate the endowments of this province. We thank our farmers in Luapula who were able to surpass the 30,000 metric tons target of maize producing 90,000 metric ton of maize in the previous farming season,” Mr Hichilema said.

And Mansa Central Member of Parliament Chitalu Chilufya has commended President Hichilema for progressively increasing the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

“The expanded CDF has increased development prospects and efficiency in the country,” Dr Chilufya said.

Meanwhile, Party for National Unity and Progress (PNUP) President Highvie Hamududu has pledged his party’s support towards President Hichilema and the UPND in the 2026 general elections.

Mr Hamududu explained that the UPND under the leadership of President Hichilema should be given another term to actualise their progressive and clear roadmap for the country’s economic recovery.

Mr Hamududu cited the revitalisation of mining ventures that had closed for many years and opening up of new mining investments during the UPND administration.

Mr Hamududu further commended the UPND administration for facilitating investments in the energy mix that include solar and thermal energy, that he said would help cushion the current electricity deficit in the long term.
