ZANIS reports that Dr Choonga said so far, the government has distributed six hundred thousand   insecticide treated nets in most parts of Lusaka province as a preventive measure against Malaria.

“For Lusaka Province malaria is a bigger problem in the three of our six districts and these are Chongwe, Rufunsa and Luangwa”, he said.

Dr Choonga also noted that the most affected districts are in the Eastern part of the Province.

He explained that the district with high incidents of Malaria cases is Rufunsa followed by Luangwa and Chongwe districts.

The Provincial Health Director said the government is implementing programmes aimed at eliminating malaria in the country and Lusaka province is in line with the programme.

Dr Choonga said the government through the Global Fund worked together and obtained over six hundred thousand insecticide treated nets which were distributed to all the districts.

“We didn’t distribute the nets in Lusaka District because here we used another intervention which is called Indo Residue Spray and as a Ministry we have continued to procure drugs for Malaria control and treatment” he said.

Dr Choonga further urged the public particularly in the districts where the nets were distributed to utilize the nets for their intended purpose.
