CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITIONAL SHOPS AT CHISOKONE MARKET ADVANCE

CONSTRUCTION of 74 new shops at Chisokone Market in Kitwe district has reached an advanced stage.

In an interview with ZANIS, the Project Manager, Ganizani Zulu disclosed that the project commenced in June 2024, and is expected to be completed by December.

Engineer Zulu stated that the project is funded by the Kitwe City Council through the 2023 Equalization Fund.

He explained that the project was initially planned to feature 66 shops, but was expanded to 74 due to the growing demand for additional retail space at the market.

Eng. Zulu stated that construction works were supposed to be completed by November, but completion timeframe was moved to December due to minor challenges in the expansion of the project.

He disclosed that the project which is at 86 percent complete is being implemented by Roxlow Engineering Contractors.

“Despite facing a series of delays that has pushed the completion timeline further out, the team has remained committed to finishing the project by the revised target date,” Eng. Zulu said.

He noted that only 14 percent of the work is yet to be done including final touches such as door installations and painting.
