Marriage Counsellor calls on couples to go through marriage counselling

-Marriage Counsellor Retired Staff Sergeant Reonard Mashewani has urged couples to go through marriage counselling before they settle for marriage.

Retired Sergeant Mashewani says the recent reports of couples killing each other and committing suicides is disheartening.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, Retired Sergeant Mashewani said it is important that couples go through an extensive marriage counselling in order for them to learn how to resolve issues rather than resorting to violence.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has advised members of the public to report all Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases to the nearest police station.

Mr Hamoonga said police have the victim support unit which offers help to victims of GBV free of charge.

“Do not be intimidated by criminals who say they can’t be pursued by the police, let me assure you that no one is above the law, I challenge you to report them and see if nothing will happen to them” Mr Hamoonga said.

Meanwhile, Zambia Men’s Network National Coordinator Nelson Banda said the organization remains committed to working with other stakeholders to end GBV in the country.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Zambia Men’s Network has launched what we are calling Free Men Counseling Programmes that will be offering counselling on various issues”, said Mr Banda.
