MUFULIRA Municipal Council says it will intensify security patrols at the newly constructed Buteko Market following complaints of thefts from marketeers.
Council Assistant Public Relation Manager Thandiwe Tembo said the Authority will provide council police officers to safeguard goods of traders.
Ms. Tembo said the council will investigate the complaints of thefts at the new market and also increase security to ensure that marketeers trade in a safe environment.
She stated that the council has also received complaints of slow business by marketeers at Buteko market saying business will soon improve once the 42 lock up shops are opened.
“The council will open the 42 lockup shops right after the next full council meeting in December and this will increase patronage at the newly constructed market,” she said.
And Traders at Buteko Market have complained of increased cases of theft by unknown people.
Annie Nsenga and Knocks Musaba told ZANIS that goods are always stolen once left inside the market.
