THE First Family has donated two Wheel chairs, 113 bales of second-hand clothing and chitenge materials to the community in Mpika district in Muchinga province.

United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairman General for Special Duties William Banda handed over the items on behalf of the First Family to community members.

Mr Banda handed over the items during a meeting with UPND party and community members.

He said the initiative to make donations underscores the First Family’s commitment to improving the lives of Zambians.

He added that President Hakainde Hichilema and First Lady Mutinta Hichilema have Zambian’s at heart.

“These wheelchairs are a sign that the First Family in this country thinks about not only those in Lusaka but even those outside Lusaka,” Mr Banda said.

He further said all the 12 wards in Mpika will benefit from the bales of second-hand clothing as well as the chitenge materials.

And Mpika District Commissioner David Siame has hailed the First Family for the initiative to uplift the lives of citizens.

Mr Siame said the wheel chairs will go a long way in aiding the movements of the two beneficiaries.

“This will help our parents to be able to do certain things on their own, we are thankful to the President and the First Lady for the gesture,” Mr Siame said.

Meanwhile, 82 year old Kamwanya resident Zwakina Mukasenu is one of the beneficiaries of the wheel chairs.

Ms Mukasenu who suffered a stroke which affected her movements has thanked the First Family for the gesture.

She said that she has been depending on her daughter to move her around but with a wheelchair she will be able to do that on her own.

“Am happy that now I will be able to move around on my own without having to depend on my daughter every time,” Ms Mukasenu said.
