2022 National Census to be issued in November  

The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTAT) says the national and provincial reports for the 2022 Census of population and housing will be released in November this year.

ZAMSTAT Census Manager  Frank Kakungu disclosed during a workshop in Kabwe, that data analysis for the 2022 Census is almost complete and that the national report will be unveiled to the public alongside provincial reports that will comprehensively highlight details of the entire 2022 National Census.

Mr Kakungu said production of the national and provincial reports for the 2022 Census is aimed at helping the citizens understand the country’s status in all spheres.

“I am happy to announce that the Zambia Statistics Agency is almost done with the data analysis for the 2022 Census and will release the national report in November,” Mr Kakungu said.

And Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe said the reports will help the provincial administration in planning educational, health, housing and other social services interventions.

He further called for the need to update the socio-demographic and economic data in the country in order to ascertain changes that have occurred in the population structure since 2010.

“A census is a critical resource for decision making at any level of governance, both in the public and private sector. The importance of data cannot be over emphasized,” Dr Mwanakampwe said.

He said the Government is currently focused on decentralising its operations to the lower levels to enhance service delivery to the people.

“Census allow for effective planning by various stakeholders as decision making is based on the wide range of statistical indicators collected in the census in relation to population and housing which is disaggregated by various segments such as age, sex and geographic spread,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary also commended ZAMSTATS Zamstats for their dedication and professionalism in the production of Census results.

ZANIS reports that the national report will also highlight the country’s housing and household conditions for both rural and urban areas.

The 2022 Census was conducted between August and September revealing the country’s current population which stands at 19.7 million.
