Heavy rains destroy fields in Mpulungu

Heavy rains in Kabulwe village in Mpulungu district have destroyed fields and damaged some houses.

Headman Chifunda explained that some farmers have had their fields washed away and some submerged in water.

He said that some cassava fields have also been submerged in water resulting in people losing their cassava crops.

The traditional leader has since appealed to the government to help the affected families and the community as a whole.

And residents of Iyendwe Ward in Mpulungu District have appealed to the local authority to patch up some portions of the Mpulungu Iyendwe road which is in a deplorable state.

One of the residents Dickson Katai said some portions of the road have become impassable and vehicles from Mpulungu to Iyendwe are failing to reach the area.

Mr. Katai explained that it is now difficult for people to reach Chitimbwa and Iyendwe owing to the bad state of the road.

He added that it will be better if the local authority can make a feasibility study of the road to see where there is urgent need.

Mr. Katai noted that farmers will soon start selling their produce to (FRA) and if the road is not worked on, ferrying of maize from the plateau to the sheds will be difficult.
