The Ministers’ Spouse Association is constructing a mother’s shelter at Chitemalesa rural health post in Rufunsa district at a cost of K180,000 in an effort to enhance health service delivery to communities.
Rufunsa Town Council Secretary, Venture Kafula disclosed this during a ground breaking ceremony at Chitemalesa rural health post that Ministers’ Spouse Association has raised K180,000 to construct a mother’s shelter at the facility.
Dr. Kafula said the construction of the mother’s shelter will complement what the government is doing through the implementation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
“As a Local Authority we are grateful to the Ministers’ spouses for complimenting government efforts in the construction of infrastructure. The Government through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is implementing infrastructure development and the coming on board of the Ministers’ spouse Association is a welcome move”, said Bishop Dr. Kafula.
He added that the Local Authority was committed to ensuring that the project is completed on time by following the government guidelines.
And speaking on behalf of the Ministers’ Spouses Association, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister’s wife, Likonge Mulenga said the association is not a profit making organization but its purpose is to supplement government efforts in uplifting the well-being of the people.
“We take this step in building a structure that will serve as shelter for our mothers in need, a place where they will find comfort and dignity during some of the most critical moments in their lives”, said Ms. Mulenga.
She added that the construction of the shelter symbolizes the organization’s commitment to improving the welfare and wellbeing of the women and children in communities.
Ms. Mulenga further said that the mothers’ shelter will not just be a beacon of hope to the mothers but will provide a sanctuary for the mothers during their moment of vulnerability.
Meanwhile, Rufunsa District Director of Health, Peter Kakonde and Chitemalesa Rural Health Post In-Charger, Gladys Sakala have commended the Ministers’ Spouse organization for the timely gesture.
Dr. Kakonde said the infrastructure will go a long way in taking care of expectant mothers who had to walk long distances to go and deliver.
While Ms. Sakala added that they will also use the facility to conduct health educational talks not only to the mothers but the community at large.
