Entrepreneurship and sustainable development vital for innovation

Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Director at Department of Domestic Trade and Commerce, Margaret Chikuba says inclusive entrepreneurship and sustainable development seeks to promote innovation and creation as well as facilitation of technology transfer.

Ms Chikuba highlights that the ministry has the National Quality Policy and National Trade Policy that ensures that there is inclusive entrepreneurship.

She says the policies aim to enhance business linkages in growth sectors as well as the promotion of commercial bonds between Micro, Small and Medium enterprises.

The Director underscored the E-commerce strategy in enhancing business development and market access.

“Through testing and certification, women-led businesses can be assisted in achieving market success through increasing their uptake and use of standards with market conformity,” she notes.

Ms Chikuba said this during a workshop on inclusive entrepreneurship and sustainable development focusing on women at Sarovar Hotel in Lusaka today.

The workshop was organised by the University of Zambia Institute of Economic and Social Research in Collaboration with Leicester Business School.

Ms Chikuba further added that entrepreneurship enables businesses to compete in both domestic and international markets.

She said by adhering to these standards, women-owned businesses can enhance their credibility and competitiveness.

Meanwhile, University of Zambia Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and innovation, Trywel Kalusopa said there is a need to stir the University of Zambia in order to recreate the vision in research.

Professor kalusopa noted that the University has the top researchers in the country, who can help in solving human challenges as regards entrepreneurship.
