Public urged to adhere to Malaria treatment

Chadiza District Health Director, Harrison Simbeye says the area has recorded an increase in Malaria incidences from 769 per 1000 people to 943 per 1000 lives in the year 2023.

Dr. Simbeye said 69,676 people tested for Malaria of which 24,307 people tested positive in the same year.

He said this during the commemoration of Malaria Day under the theme: Health Equity, Gender, and Human Rights.

Dr. Simbeye said the district has embarked on various interventions which include, continuous distribution of mosquito nets through Antenatal Care visits, expanded programme for immunisation, and indoor residual spray among others.

“We also have embarked on testing and treating at community level of which we intend to allow more people access the services at community level,” he said.

And Chadiza District Commissioner, Malan Zimba, said the measures being put in place in the district will help in rolling back Malaria.

Mr Zimba has also called on the public to use mosquito nets effectively and ensure that they adhere to the treatment given to them by health workers.

“Malaria can kill especially if you are not treated, a situation calling for your adherence to treatment, and I am urging you all to get tested,” he said.

Currently, Chadiza has distributed over 52,000 mosquito nets with a spray coverage of 99 percent over 36, 000 households
