UPND scoops Kaunga ward by-election in Luangwa

The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped Kaunga ward by election in Luangwa District.

Returning Officer Haninga Mwangi declared the ruling UPND candidate Henry Tembo who was leading by 184 votes as the winner.

The Socialist Party’s Maneya Mwale got 108 votes while Citizens First candidate, Musonda Armstrong got 82, while Independent candidate Kabaso Samson got 9 and Leadership Movement candidate Geoffrey Mumba got 0.

Mr Mwangi further said the total votes cast was 396 and 13 votes were rejected.

And UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, Obvious Mwaliteta assured the people of Luangwa of government’s support.

He added that the ruling party’s President Haksinde Hichilema is ensuring that no one dies of hunger in the country and Lusaka Province in particular.

“We going to look after the Zambian people, no one will die of hunger,” he said.

The by-election was facilitated by the resignation of the councilor Frederick Phiri who joined the civil service.
