Itezhi -Tezhi MP calls for repair of Namwala pontoon

Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament Twaambo Mutinta has urged the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to repair the Namwala-Itezhi Tezhi Pontoon as soon as possible to avoid a tragic accident on the Kafue River.
In a press statement made available to ZANIS, Mr. Mutinta stated that the Namwala-Itezhi Tezhi Pontoon, which is now managed by Namwala Council, is a hazard and poses a risk to community members who use the facility to cross into Namwala and the rest of Southern Province across the Kafue River.

He stated that the Namwala local authority has been working with the Ministry of Works for over a year, but very little attention has been paid to repairing the pontoon.

The Itezhi -Tezhi law marker revealed that the pontoon has been in poor condition for a long time that the floaters are damaged, and the pontoon is leaking, posing a risk to travelers.

He stated that over 5,000 Itezhi-Tezhi residents use the pontoon every week to cross into Namwala district to and from Choma, the provincial capital.

“The Ministry of Transport and Logistics should immediately mobilise the necessary resources to repair the pontoon, as well as to begin the process of providing a new pontoon to the people of Namwala and Itezhi-tezhi” Mr. Mutinta stated.
