Senga Town council to commence Township road rehabilitation

Senga Hill Town Council Chairperson Kings Sikainga says his Council is in the process of buying a set of earth moving equipment to open up the area.

Mr. Sikainga says the local authority plans to use the earth moving equipment to be procured using Constituency Development Fund (CDF ) among other resources will be useful in rehabilitating township roads and other economic viable roads such as the 35-kilometer Kayambi-Chozi road.

In a phone interview with ZANIS , the Council chairperson assured residents in the area to remain calm, adding that the said road  will be prioritized once the equipment is bought by the council.

He was reacting to calls raised by community members who expressed concern on the dilapidated township and other social-economically viable roads such as the Kayambi-Chozi road.

Earlier , Community representative, Richard Kalumbi, bemoaned the word state of township roads in the area saying residents were forced to go through Nakonde district to access the Senga Hill District Administration.

Urging government to gravel the road to ease the mobility of people in the area, Mr Kalumbi said if worked on, the road will not only reduce the distance but transportation costs incurred to access the administration offices, about 70km away.

And Sharon Nanyinza equally called for the upgrading of the road from Kayambi to Chozi Bridge to ease the movement of people in the area as the said road .

“ This  road is cardinal because people in the area use it to transport agricultural produce from the area, which is the main economic stay for the majority of the people, ‘ said Ms. Nanyinza.

She expressed hope the road, if worked on, will provide the shortest route for people in Senga Hill and other districts such as Kasama and Mungwi to get to Nakonde District.

The upgrading of the road network  will also boost business in the area, as people will also be able to buy and sell goods as they pass through the road.
