Zambia’s SCT scheme impresses Malawi

 The Malawian government says it is impressed with how Zambia’s social cash transfer is changing lives of ordinary citizens.

Malawi’s Principal Secretary of Gender and community development Neitha Semphere-Mgala says she is impressed to learn how  the Keeping Girls in School program, under the Ministry of Education is impacting of the vulnerable girl child in Zambia.

Dr. Mgala says from the positive testimonies on the social safety scheme noted in Zambia, would be replicated in her country as well.

Speaking in Siavonga during the social services program exchange briefing yesterday , the Principal Secretary of Gender and community development in Malawi disclosed that the help that is extended to the girl child’s development is infact a tool to curb  early marriages in the country.

” I was very impressed to listen to testimonies on how beneficiaries of social cash transfer have managed to empower their lives,  by venturing various into income generating activities, we hope to implement what we have learned in Malawi in order to have an empowered society,” she said.

Speaking at the same event Ministry of Community Development, Permanent Secretary Angela Kwandami thanked the Malawian delegation for visiting Siavonga.

Ms. Kawandami described the SCT program as a life time lesson which will help the ministry to identify beneficiaries on drought emergency  social cash transfer.

Speaking earlier at Kariba combined secondary school Siavonga district social welfare officer Chibwe Musonda said there are 6,695  beneficiaries on social cash transfer in the district.
