Govt. wants to see good health for all-Parliamentary committee

Parliamentary Committee on Health says it is the desire of the government to ensure good health and wellbeing of all citizens is actualized in the country through the implementation of the devolution process.

The committee Chairperson Christopher Kalila, said the implementation of devolution of functions to local authorities has been one of the ways that the government is ensuring good health and wellbeing of its citizens.

Mr Kalila explained that the parliamentarians are in Southern province to follow up on how the devolution process in selected districts is being implemented and its impact on the wellbeing of the people

Mr Kalila said this when he led Parliamentarians in paying a courtesy call on Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba.

“We are visiting Mazabuka District on our tour of Southern Province on fact finding on the devolution process of functions to the local authorities and also to understand how it is being implemented,” Mr Kalila said.

He added that the shift of functions to local authorities calls for more interactions with health facilities so that challenges that may arise are understood and appropriate actions are taken to ensure good health of the citizens.

“That means all your health posts, all clinics, all the community health interventions will be done by the local authorities to betterment of the people. We are checking on the impact of the devolution process” Mr Kalila said.

And Mr Mulomba reaffirmed the commitment of his office to ensure that the devolution process is responding to the needs of the people in the district.

“Mazabuka district has no serious challenges regarding the implementation, there is a smooth delivery of health services to our communities, as it is the wish of the government to take services close to the people and this is what is happening here,” Mr Mulomba said.
