Chasefu Member of Parliament, Misheck Nyambose, says local contractors should be given preference when it comes to awarding of contracts as a way of empowering the local entrepreneurs in the area.

Mr Nyambose noted that contractors from Lusaka and parts of the country were the ones benefiting at the expense of the locals which is unfair for the district in terms of development.

Mr Nyambose said this when he met some Chasefu constituents at Emmusa Primary School grounds.

The MP said considering local contractors first in the awarding of contracts for any development project has ripple benefits which include employment creation for members of the community.

He however, said contractors from outside the district had a tendency of recruiting members of the community in Chasefu to carry out manual works without paying them.

Mr Nyambose warned that his office will report those found wanting to the appropriate authorities.

He further urged the people to widen the scope of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) beyond Health and Education to other sectors to enhance development in the district.

The MP also encouraged youths with different skills to apply for contracts in CDF projects.
