CHIEF KASOMALWELA ESTABLISHES GBV TASKFORCE

Chief Kasomalwela of the Ushi people in Chembe district has established a Task Force to address the increasing cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

ZANIS reports that the Task Force comprising several stakeholders in the area will among other responsibilities be engaged in detecting and reporting GBV cases, awareness raising and mobilization to address all forms of GBV and child marriages in the area.

Chief Kasomalwela bemoaned the rampant cases of GBV and early marriages in his Chiefdom a situation he said has potential to hinder development in the area.

In an interview with ZANIS at his Palace, the  traditional ruler  said the area has been recording increased cases of GBV that include defilement, spousal emotional and physical violence and early marriages.

“I’m champion against GBV and early marriages. As a chief I should be in the forefront of sensitizing my subjects and the entire community on issues of GBV and early marriages which is not good for our development,” Chief Kasomalwela.

The traditional leader has since implored parents and guardians against marrying off their children at a tender age at the expense of education warning to punish those who will go against his directives on the matter.
