REHABILITATED WATER SYSTEM AT NEGA-NEGA OPENS

The match anticipated water reticulation system at Nega Nega market has commenced operations.

The project will benefit more than 300 traders at the market and the surrounding areas. 

The borehole and water reticulation constructed at a cost of K188 000 is a donation by Kaltire as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. 

Speaking when he officiated at the event,  Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Gary Nkombo thanked Kaltire  for the aid. 

” The water system will help mitigate the challenge of constant water supply in the market brought about by the drought.

“It will also improve the hygienic situation at the market thereby preventing the outbreak of diseases like cholera as people will have clean drinking water, ” he said. 

Mr. Nkombo assured the traders at Nega Nega market that construction of a market shelter will be prioritised under the 2025 CDF budget to ensure people trade in a safe environment. 

Meanwhile, Kaltire Operations Officer Sekelani Daka has thanked the government for creating a conducive trading environment where the private sector is flourishing. 

 ” We thank the government for public private economic partnership policy which allows private companies to excel and to bring development to the people,  ” Mr. Daka said

Nega Nega Market Chairperson Fred Mutabali has thanked Gary Nkombo for soliciting aid from Kaltire to install the water reticulation at the market. 

He said the water system will ease many challenges that people are facing at the market including walking long distances to go and fetch clean water. 

He said  he was sure that the authorities will continue improving the condition at the market.
