Swedish government announces 45 Million USD funding to Zambia

The Swedish government has announced a 45 Million United States Dollar development cooporation funding to Zambia.

The funding is for the period of 2024 to 2028.

Swedish Minister of International Development Corporation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell says the funding is aimed at continued pursuit of Development Corporation and Trade Promotion.

Mr Forssel notes that the funding will also go towards climate and environmental protection in view of the change affecting most countries globally.

The Swedish Minister states that his country will promote coherent and effective development assistance coordination particularly with the European Union as a key development policy actor.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema said in its quest to revive the economy, the Zambian government wishes to see more Swedish investment.

The President says Zambia needs more investments in its pursuit of creating opportunities for its people.

President Hichilema says given the technological advancement of Sweden, he has implored them to explore opportunities particularly in the mining sector.

“Swedish investors were more active in the mines sector before the mines went down so it is our plea that as we begin to reconstruct our economy, we need such investments back” President Hichilema said.

President Hichilema has since tasked Zambian Ambassador to Sweden Gladys Lundwe to use her position to woo more Swedish investment.

The meeting was also attended by Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe, Swedish Head of Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mikael Lindavall and Swedish Ambassador to Zambia Johan Hallenborg.
