Construction of a footbridge in Mufulira almost complete

The government is constructing a footbridge in Mufulira’s Chibolya Township at a cost of Four Hundred Thousand, Six Hundred kwacha using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Mufulira Town Clerk, Kasonde Musongole, has disclosed that the bridge will improve access between Chibolya and the Central Business District, which were previously separated by a stream.  Ms Musongole stated that the works on the bridge are at 95 percent complete and expected to be finished in two weeks.  “This bridge is very important because the people of Chibolya were cut off and did not have direct access to town by foot. Now, they will be able to easily access the Central Business District and surrounding areas,” she said.  Meanwhile, Chibolya residents have welcomed the development.  Meald Bwalya, explained that they previously relied on makeshift bridges, which were prone to collapse.   “In the rainy season, the stream overflows and becomes impassable. When we found the makeshift bridge collapsed, we couldn’t cross,” Mr Bwalya explained.
