MPULUNGU COUNCIL COMMENDED

Residents of Mpulungu have commended the local authority in Mpulungu for working hard in keeping the town clean.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Daniel Mwenya, observed that Mpulungu has in the recent past been fighting outbreaks of diarrhoea diseases which were triggered by the uncollected garbage in the district.

In an interview with the Zambia News and Information Services today, Mr. Mwenya explained that it is gratifying to find that the local authority has started cleaning the town and unblocking drainages before the rain season intensifies.

He said the area experiences blocked drainages in the central business district and surrounding compounds resulting in the outbreak of diarrhoea diseases including cholera.

And Mpulungu Town Council Assistant Director of Health Peter Katongo when reached for a comment said the local authority is working hard to ensure that garbage is collected and properly disposed of.

Mr Katongo explained that his Council has engaged 42 casual workers to clean drainages and also ensure the garbage is collected early and properly.

He has since appealed to residents especially those living near drainages to ensure they don’t dispose of the dirty in drainages.

Mr Katongo was quick to note that concerted efforts from the community are needed to help keep Mpulungu clean, green and healthy.
