PHIRI CALLS FOR TALENT IDENTIFICATION

Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi- Phiri has urged  schools to support and nurture development of talents.

Ms Phiri underscored the need for schools to focus on the technical competence of learners.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS today, the Deputy Permanent Secretary expressed delight at the architectural design model of a two-storey house designed by a 14-year-old of Kasama District.

Nkonde a grade eight at pupil at Mubanga Chipoya Day Secondary School in Kasama, designed the two-storey house using cut box, wood and glue.

“These are natural born architects, clearly if a young person at 14 can come up with such a beautiful house you can tell that this is coming from the depth of their heart and they understand the job very well,” she noted.

Ms Phiri noted that it is high time schools provided a favourable environment for learners to showcase their technical abilities adding that the move would go a long way to ensure availability of architects’ personnel in the country.

“We should learn to nurture talent, the moment we nurture it, we have children who will bring out the most in the country,” she said.

She has since appealed to the architectural institutions and the Ministry of Youth and Sport to take a keen interest in such initiatives.
