BARRICK LUMWANA MINE FUNDS COMMUNITY PROJECTS IN KALUMBILA

Lumwana Community Trust (LCT) has handed over various projects costing over K 3.8 Million in Matebo Chiefdom of Kalumbila District of North-western.

The projects funded by Barrick Lumwana Mine include a Police Post, Ndenda Bridge, 120 cattle, five houses for the aged and a water reticulation system.

Addressing the community during commissioning of the projects, District Commissioner, Brenda Sankisa, commended Lumwana Community Trust for the continued support and partnership with the government in infrastructure, education, agriculture, health sectors and wealthy creation.

She said the construction of the infrastructure has made significant contributions towards the realisation of the government’s goal of achieving the Vision 2030 as a team.

She added that LCT will soon be constructing 1 x 3 housing units to accommodate three officers for the newly constructed police post.

Ms Sankisa further urged the community to take care of the projects and appealed to other companies to emulate Lumwana Community Trust and Lumwana Mining Company.

The District Commissioner further urged the community members to work together and participate in all the developmental projects taking place in the area.

Speaking at the same event, Barrick Lumwana Acting Community Relations Manager, Febby Siankulu, said the ongoing funding from Lumwana Mining Company is a testimony of the close relation and genuine partnership between the Mine and LCT.

She said the initiative implemented by LCT is aligned with the sustainable development policy for the global Barrick Gold and Copper Mining Company.

Ms Siankulu affirmed the mining company’s commitment to supplementing government’s effort through infrastructure development in various sectors.

And Representative of Chief Mumena and LCT, Douglas Muluka indicated that LCT has been implementing various projects including infrastructure in three Chiefdoms of Mumena, Matebo and Mukumbi through funding from Barrick Lumwana Mining Company.

Meanwhile, North-western Province Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kennedy Mumbi, stated that the Police post will combat crime in Matebo Chiefdom.

And an 84-year-old beneficiary of the house, Bikiloni Jioma, has appreciated the government and Lumwana Mine Company for the gesture.
