President Hichilema hails  Zambia-US relations

President Hakainde Hichilema, says the country is pleased to have a strong partnership with the United States government.


President Hichilemacited the results achieved through a partnership under the Kobot exploration mining transaction at Mingo’mba project on the Copperbelt province as one of the examples of the Zambia-USA successful partnership.

The Head of State said since the joint venture was signed, which will soon be a productive mine the results have been pleasing.

He added the Mingo’mba mining project is a step towards the right direction in reaching the country’s three million ton Copper production target.


And President Hichilema announced that the second compact of the millennium will challenge corporations at a cost of 450 million US dollars and will include asset financing, agriculture policy reform and institutional strengthening.

He expressed happiness with what the partnership has achieved over the years, adding that it is important to the country’s economic agenda.


President Hichilema further thanked Millennium Challenge Corporation for successfully undertaking a 355 million United States dollars first compact project on the water supply and sanitation project.

The President said this today when a delegation from Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) called on him at  state house.


Millennium Challenge Corporation, Chief Executive Officer, Alice Albright said the United States government is committed to working with the government of Zambia in strengthening good governance and economic development.

MsAlbright said MCC will also support Zambia food security by speeding up the development of the second compact to strengthen the agriculture, food and agro processing sectors.

She disclosed that the delegation is in Zambia to discuss progress made in implementing the first compact as well as the way forward in meeting the objectives for the second compact.

She noted that recently the MCC signed an aid memoir with the Ministry of Finance that outlines its reform commitment jointly agreed for the second compact.


She added that the program will catalyse the agriculture sector and road infrastructure asset financing, policy reforms and institutional strengthening.

Ms Albright said the delegation is expected to visit an agro processing plant to get firsthand information on how the future compact will unlock the country’s economic potential.
