Chieftains Mwenda happy with distribution of relief maize in Chikankata

Chieftains Mwenda of Chikankata district in Southern Province says she is delighted with the government for the 4,100 by 50 kilogrammes bags of relief maize provided to the district to avert hunger situation.

Government through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) commenced the distribution of relief maize to vulnerable households in the district last week.

The distribution is part of its intervention to cushion the hunger situation brought about by the drought during the 2023/2024 farming season.

And Chikankata Constituency Member of Parliament, Jacqueline Sabao, said the relief food should be distributed equally and in a transparent manner.

Ms Sabao said there is a need to sensitise residents about the arrival of relief food in the district.

She further stated that traditional leaders should be involved in the distribution of relief food exercises.

Meanwhile, Chieftains Mwenda warned her subjects against indiscriminate selling of land in her Chiefdom.

She stressed that those adamant subjects who do not want to abide by the directive will be chased from the Chiefdom.

The warning follows complaints by some of her subjects who complained to ZANIS that 200 hectares of land has been grabbed from them by a named private investor.
