TAZARA Zambia workers call for salary uniformity with Tanzanians

Over 1,000 Unionised workers of the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) on the Zambian side have resolved to down tools tomorrow, Friday, May 31st, 2024, to push management to effect a salary parity agreement with their counterparts from Tanzania.

The workers have complained that the delayed  and non-implementation of the salary parity agreement has continued to render the TAZARA workers on the Zambian side to be lowly remunerated .

Crews and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CRAWUZ) President,Bervis Silumbe has told ZANIS in Kapiri Mposhi that currently the lowest paid worker at TAZARA is entitled to get about USD 225 but is being paid at the rate of K 17.24 to a dollar which translates to about  91 United State Dollars per month when the dollar has appreciated to over  26 Kwacha..
