Poor CDF sensitisation worries govt.

Government says due to poor sensitisation of the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), a number of communities are not appreciating its impact.

Kasenengwa District Commissioner Rachael Phiri says it is government’s concern that most communities are unaware of the laid down formalities of accessing the fund as a result of poor sensitisation.

ZANIS reports that Ms Phiri said this when Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) Chairperson Ackson Sejani paid a courtesy call on her at her office.

The local authority here has not done enough sensitisation to members of the public on how they can benefit from CDF, she lamented.

The District Commissioner expressed her concern that even monitoring of CDF projects by engineers is not done frequently which in most cases results in poor workmanship by the contractors.

‘’I wish to commend the President for increasing the CDF. However, I wish to mention that most people are still not appreciating the increment as the council has not done enough sensitisation on how our people can benefit’’ she said.

And Mr Sejani said that he took note of the concerns raised by the District Commissioner and will ensure that they receive the necessary attention.

He however disclosed that his Commission has devolved part of its functions to the human resource committee at district level.

He added that this is to ensure that certain matters including recruitment of division three and four employees are done locally.

The commission was in the district to check how the Human Resource committees that were set up about two years ago were fairing.
